2012-2013 Group Service Projects

Thanksgiving Basket Distribution:

Once again, we volunteered for the Backstreet Mission distribution.  Our members each volunteered two hours to assist in the process of distributing the food.  Scottie Ingram served as the officer in charge of this project where we donated 90 hours of time. We enjoyed beautiful weather and lending a helping hand.

Food Drive:

Our officers decided to organize the annual food drive that benefits Operation Outreach.  Operation Outreach offers a community-wide food pantry, and they were in need of re-stocked shelves in preparation for the holidays.  Macy Morguson, the officer in charge of this project, organized the food drive. The NHS members paired up, and each pair "adopted" a third hour teacher.  The competition became intense as classes brought non-perishable items to donate; each class was hoping for the prize, which was a breakfast party from Magic Morning Bakery in Bedford. Our student body responded to this project so enthusiastically that we were able to donate over 1,700 items to Operation Outreach!  And...we must offer congratulations to Mrs. Shepherd's winning class, adopted by Hunter Roberts and Amy Todd.

Jamie Hudson headed up this project where we partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to sell shamrocks.  The money we earned was donated to send Greene County students with MD to summer camp.  We were able to fund a full week of camp for a Greene County student, and we were the top selling school group in the state of Indiana!

We were asked to help raise money for the Student Activity Fund again this year.  The fund provides benefits, incentives, supplies, and much more to all students at EGHS; however, there is not a budget line anywhere that adds money back.  We were glad to have a very successful and tasty sales event as Anna Jenness led us in a project where we were able to donate over $1,200 to the Student Activities Fund. Inga's Popcorn in Bloomington supplied the popcorn for our sale.
